Kilkenny film Talent Shines Bright at the Galway Film Fleadh

Kilkenny’s creative spirit lit up the screen at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh, held from 8^th to 13^th July, where the very best of Irish and international cinema came together in celebration of storytelling.

With over 97 feature films and more than 100 short films showcased, the Fleadh offered an exciting platform for filmmakers, producers, and industry professionals to connect, collaborate, and celebrate cinematic excellence. Among the standout contributors were several talented individuals from Kilkenny, whose work captured the attention of audiences and peers alike.

Kilkenny’s Dave Minogue, in collaboration with John Doran, made waves with their short film The Assassination of Michael D. Higgins, which was both written and produced by the duo, with Doran also starring in the piece. Meanwhile, Once We Were Punks, a feature-length documentary featuring cinematography by Kilkenny filmmaker Kevin Hughes, premiered to enthusiastic acclaim.

Adding to the momentum, representatives from Kilkenny County Council’s Local Enterprise Office (LEO) and Economic Development Unit attended the festival to promote an exciting new initiative—'Screen Kilkenny’. This project aims to position County Kilkenny as a premier destination for film production, offering a rich selection of locations, skilled professionals, and robust support services right in the heart of Ireland’s South-East.

The Galway Film Fleadh was not only a celebration of cinematic artistry but also a powerful reminder of Kilkenny’s growing influence in the film industry. With talent, vision, and community support, Kilkenny continues to make its mark on the national and international stage.
